Privacy Policy
Hivio · Effective October 2, 2026
The short version: Hivio stores what your family puts into it so everyone in the household can see it. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use advertising trackers. You can delete your account and all of your household's data from inside the app at any time.
Who we are
Hivio is made by Matthew Warner ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy or your data: thehivioapp@gmail.com.
What we collect
Your account (parents). Your email address, a password (stored by our sign-in provider, never readable by us), your first name and your household's name.
What your household adds. Family members' first names and roles; to-dos and chores, who they're assigned to and when they were completed; calendar events, including any location you type; grocery items and stores; expenses and their amounts; meal plans; and rewards and points. This is the content of the app — it's stored so your family can see it.
Calendars you import (Premium, optional). If you choose to import calendars from your phone (for example iCloud or Google calendars), Hivio reads the events in the calendars you pick — title, time, place — and adds them to your household's calendar so your family can see them. Hivio only reads those calendars; it never changes or deletes anything in them. Stop importing at any time in the Calendar tab, and the upcoming imported events are removed.
Kids' devices. When a parent sets up a kid's device or a shared tablet, that device gets an anonymous identifier linked to your household and to the family member it belongs to, plus a device type (for example "iPhone") so you can tell devices apart. Children do not create accounts, and we don't ask children for an email, password or any other personal information.
Subscriptions. Purchases are made through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play. We never see your payment details. Our subscription provider receives your account identifier and your subscription status so Premium can be turned on for your household.
Crash reports. If the app crashes, it sends a crash report — what went wrong in the code, the app version, and the device model and operating system — so we can fix it. Crash reports don't include your household's content, and aren't used to identify you.
Settings on your device. Preferences such as light or dark mode are stored only on that device.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your household's information to the people and devices in it.
- To provide Premium: check whether your household has a subscription or trial.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to answer you if you contact us.
We don't use your data for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers below, who process it on our behalf.
Service providers
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Crashlytics) — stores your account and household data, and receives crash reports. Firebase privacy.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status. RevenueCat privacy.
- Apple and Google — handle App Store and Google Play purchases and payments.
Who can see your household's data
Only you and the devices you've set up for your household. Every household's data is kept separate from every other household's. A kid's device can see the family's members, to-dos, calendar, grocery list and meal plan, and can tick off its own chores and add groceries; it cannot see expenses or change family settings. You can unlink any device at any time in Family → Devices, which removes its access immediately.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your household's data while your account exists. To delete everything, open Hivio → Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your login, your household and all of its content, and unlinks every device. If you can't use the app, you can ask us to delete your account instead.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription: cancel it in your iPhone's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or in the Play Store → Payments & subscriptions.
Children
Hivio is used by families. Accounts are created by parents; children use the app only on devices a parent sets up. Children's names and chores are entered and controlled by the parent, who can edit or delete them — or the whole account — at any time. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and protected by access rules that limit each household's data to that household. No system is perfect, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if something goes wrong that affects you.
Your rights
You can see and change your household's information in the app, and delete it all as described above. Depending on where you live you may have further rights (for example to a copy of your data); contact us and we'll help.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app.
Terms of Use
On iPhone and iPad, use of Hivio is governed by Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. On Android, Google Play's terms of service apply to downloads and purchases.
